Description These data describe terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and NATO/ISAF troop levels. Data for the paper section "Troops and Attacks" is drawn from the first dataset, "ATTACKS.csv". For the time period 2007-2010, months are designated by number. There are five rows for each Year/Month for each Regional Command (RC). The fourth column, Suicide, is the proportion of suicide attacks (Nsuic) to total attacks (Natx). This data is drawn from NCTC WITS. Finally, the seventh column, Troops, lists the troop levels for each Year/Month/RC based on the NATO/ISAF Troop Placemat. Data for the section "Tactical Skill" is drawn from the second dataset, "CASUALTIES.csv", which covers the period 2005-2010. The first column is the Month/Year. For the casualty numbers, the following code is used: TOT is total; SUIC is suicide; NONSUIC is any attack not involving suicide; KIA is number killed; WND is number wounded; CIV is civilian; POL is police. Data is drawn from NCTC WITS.
