Description |
With support from Center for Disease Control (CDC) PSI Uganda is expanding its HIV services portfolio to include care and support for PLWHA with the introduction of the HIV Basic Care Package program. Through organizations working with PLWHA, the program will provide and promote use of the following components of the Basic Care Package - cotrimoxazole propylaxis CTX (SEPTRIN), safe water systems (SWS), Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs), condoms, family planning and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) services. This program has an IEC component with two primary messages for PLWHA: 1) how to prevent opportunistic infections; and, 2) how to prevent the transmission of HIV to others. The basic care baseline needs to be implemented among registered HIV-positive clients at selected sites, to determine the baseline figures for monitoring the program's performance indicators. The study will measure behavior change determinants for the basic care program areas indicated above.
