Description We study a panel of 31 African countries over the period 2006-2018 with data mainly from the World Development Indicators (WDI) and the World Happiness Report (WHR ). The periodicity starts from 2006 due to the fact that the happiness variables of the WHR are only available from 2005 onwards and at that time several African countries do not have data available. The dependent variable is happiness or subjective well-being as measured by the World Happiness Report (WHR) life scale. This variable is obtained by asking respondents to think of their lives as a scale, with the worst possible life for them at 0 and the best possible life at 10. The measure of happiness (or well-being) is the national average response to the question of life evaluations.
