Description |
Kerala plays a dominant role in fish production, processing and export. This is mainly because of the contribution of our traditional fishermen who now use mechanised boats and motorised crafts. This change to mechanisation had its beginning with the starting of the Indo- Norwegian Project at Neendakara, near KoUam in the early 50s. This could be said to be the beginning of a concerted effort for human resource development in the fisheries sector as far as India is concerned. The introduction of mechanisation perhaps has triggered the starting of certain technical courses in the Government Polytechnic at Kalamassery in Emakulam District. Almost at the same time, the State Department of Fisheries started the fisheries technical schools at various centres in Kerala. |
