Description The aim of this paper is to find a use case to improve a part of the public administration of the City of Bern using IoT technologies. Although the importance of IoT rises in Swiss cities, there is no paper published yet which examines the IoT possibilities for the administration of the City of Bern. After defining the research question - How IoT technologies could be used to improve the public administration of the City of Bern? - a comprehensive literature review was conducted. To develop a suitable use case, we analyzed various possibilities within the administration. After identifying a case, we conducted 21 semi-structured interviews with the responsible departments. We also held five interviews with IoT experts to verify the use case idea and the proposed solution. Finally, we drew conclusions from the gained insights. We close the paper with an outlook and a proposal for further research ideas to deepen the case. We chose the white paper approach to focus more on the practical part. The result is making a validated statement whether the research question is true or false and to provide conclusive evidence for the argumentation.
