Description

This dataset, partly derived from TalkofEurope (Hollink et al. 2017), IDEA, IPU and official EP data, contains information behind 159,881 speeches by 1,592 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from 1999 to 2013, including the proportion of women across the EP and in the parliamentary party groups (PPGs) at time of speech, Members' age, duration of parliamentary membership, as well as national background, e.g., existence of voluntary or legislative quotas. The substantive representation of women's interests (SRWI) is derived from the ratio of substantively representative speeches relative to all speeches made over the research period.
