Description This project involved creating a database of information on the predominantly Irish immigrants who opened the first 18,000 accounts at New York's Emigrant Savings Bank from 1850 to 1858. The "Depositor Database" contains a line for each of the bank's depositors and we supplemented the information in the bank's ledgers with data from the U.S. census, ship manifests, city directories, newspapers, death records, and court documents (including wills probated in the city's Surrogates Court). The "Household Database" contains a line for each household with accounts at the bank. The "Transactions Database" records every deposit, withdrawal, and interest payment, with the date they took place, for 20% of the bank's first 18,000 accounts. BE SURE TO USE THE VERSIONS UPLOADED 9/13/2019. THOSE VERSIONS HAVE UNDERGONE THE MOST DATA CLEANUP AND CORRECTION.
