Description These two varieties are promising lines for future breeding of common beans. The VAP5 line is an interspecific bridge line from crosses with Phaseolus acutifolius and P. parvifolius sister species (Barrera, et al. 2022). Due to the ecosystem that the sister species are adapted to, they present an allele source for heat tolerance, drought tolerance, pathogen resistances, early maturity, and biofortification potential. These characteristics are highly important for climate adaptation and future challenges. The NABE12C line is a large seeded sugar bean (cranberry) with climbing growth habit and important market characteristics and public demand. It is tolerant to anthracnose, root rot, common bacterial blight (CBB), rust and bean common mosaic virus (BCMV). The combination of an interspecific bridge line and a demanded commercial line are useful molecular tools for breeding purposes and market directed genetics.
