Description |
We updated the HELIO_SP.CO database (Hierarchical, Entity-based, Landscape-level Information Observatory for mangrove SPecies in Colombia) previously published in 2018, originally containing 102 mangrove inventory sites measured along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Colombia in the mid-1990s. Version 2 includes additional sites in San Andrés Island, part of the oceanic territory in the Caribbean (OC), and additional variables for all sites. The database comprises a latitudinal range from 1.4 to 12.6 N and a longitudinal range from 81.7 to 71.2 W. Sites are scattered along south-north and west-east gradients, and from rainy to dry/desert climates. The oceanic sites occur within a maritime climate, under moderate-intensity cyclonic activity. Finally, sites are also located under a variety of geomorphic settings and mangrove physiognomic types. Both longitudinal and latitudinal patterns are observed for the three most important species (Rhizophora species complex, Avicennia germinans and Laguncularia racemosa), and they might be influenced by a combination of climatic, biotic and disturbance regime drivers.
