India is blessed with 0.5 million ha of floodplain wetland resources largely distributed in northern, eastern and northeastern region of the country. Floodplain wetlands in have been recognized as one of the important fishery resources in the Northeast India, both in terms of resource size (1,44,513 ha) and production potential. These resources constitute one of the major fisheries resources in the region with tremendous fish production production potential of 1,000-1,500 kg ha-1yr-1 based on available natural food spectrum viz., plankton, macrophytes and detritus.
