Description Major production constraint in sunflower hybrids is the poor sink strength. Here we report a hormonal manipulation to improve sink strength and seed yield. Application of BAP (@20 g/ha) at ray floret stage, significantly improved the sink strength parameters viz., thalamus size, number of seeds per head and test weight with a reduced central sterility and resulted in increased seed yield. Additional NAA (50 g/ ha) and GA (10 g/ha) with BAP (20 g/ha) did not improve the seed yield over control. We suggest that application of BAP (@20 g/ha) at ray floret stage is beneficial to increase the sink strength and seed yield of KBSH-44.
