Description Aquaporins (AQP) are essential  membrane proteins that play a significant role in the transport of water and other small molecules across membranes. Water transport rates can be quickly reduced by environmental challenges such as salt, drought, and low root temperature and Barley is the fourth most significant cereal crop in the world, behind maize, wheat, and rice. Since the dawn of humanity, it has been one of the earliest domesticated food crops. However, currently little is known about the AQP genes in Barley (Hordeum vulgare). In this study, a comprehensive genome-wide analysis identified 44 AQP genes in Barley, according to their chromosomal location, gene ID, length, coordinates, splice variants, and subcellular location. The highest chromosome number of this domain is 7 and the least chromosome number is 1. The classification was further validated by gene structure, sequence identity, conserved motif, and phylogeny analysis. It presents the genome wide analysis of the AQP gene in Barley and provides valuable information for further functional analysis to infer the role of AQP in the adaptation of Barley in diverse environmental conditions.
