Description Performance of cardamom in a non traditional area situated comparatively at a lower elevation and under assured irrigation has been the focus of this study. The High Production Technology followed in this research.·cum· demonstration plot was evaluated to assess its economic feasibility. It was evident from the findings that a peak yield of 1678 kg/h.a was obtained in third year (1995·96). A moderate and encouraging yield of 173 kg/h.a was obtained in the very second year (1994-95) of planting. An average yield of 829 kg/h.a for cropping seasons (1994-95 to 1997-98) was observed with. an average net return of Rs.1,12,532Jh.a. The· economic and financial feasibility measures namely, NPV (Rs.3,14,162Jh.a), BCR (2.46) and IRR (128%) indicated investment on introducing cardamom under comparatively low elevation and rainfall situation with assured irrigation facilities is an economically viable proposition.
