Description |
India is the largest producer and exporter of turmeric (Curcuma Longa L.) in the world. Among spices grown in India it ranks fifth in area (6 161300 hectares), second in production (6 53600 tonnes) and third in export (both in quantity (35556 tonnes) and value (Rs I 217 million) during 1999-2000 (S B, 2000). In India, states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kamataka, West Bengal contributes 900 of the total production.
