Description The present study was conducted to study the occurrence of amniotic plaques in placental membrane of Spotted deer (Axis axis) fetus (n=2). The amnion was closely investing the fetus and was examined macroscopically. Grossly, the amniotic plaques appeared to be dispersed randomly throughout the inner surface of amnion as translucent to whitish-grey coloured irregular and small patches. The size of plaques varied from grain size to large patches with an average diameter of up to 3 .5 mm. Moreover, some of the plaques were larger in size, opaque in appearance, yellowish white to cream in colour and irregular in shape. Additionally, these plaqueswere most numerous specifically around the umbilical cord of the foetuses. In our findings, the presence of these plaques on the amnion is a normal finding in amnion of Spotted deer; hitherto their presence is still an enigma.
