Description |
The present study was conducted on the heart of 10 birds each of Kadaknath and Pratapdhan. The heart was located in the cranial part of thoraco-abdominal cavity and enclosed by semitransparent pericardial sac. The heart of both the Kadaknath and Pratapdhan birds were conical shaped with pointed apex and wide base. The base of heart was directed upward while the apex was downward. The colour of heart of Kadaknath and Pratapdhan birds were black and brownish red, respectively. The heart was divided into two upper receiving chambers i.e. atrium and two lower discharging chambers i.e. ventricles. Both the atria were separated from each other by the interatrial septum and both the ventricles were separated from each other by the interventricular septum. The atrial wall was comparatively thinner than the ventricular wall.
