Description Modernization of agriculture is mandatory in order to meet the objectives of high productivity, sustainability and improved livelihoods. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are being used in practically every field these days and could be a potential tool in making agriculture more efficient. Increase in the UAVs in agriculture is being witnessed mainly due to developments in the low cost UAVs as well as an array of sensors for specific applications. The proximal sensor mounted UAVs are ideally suited for remote monitoring of cotton crop without the need to either damage or physically tamper the crop. Higher resolution images from UAVs can aid in site specific crop management (SSCM) of cotton, conserving resources and environment. This article reviews various sensors and their applications for better management of cotton crop. Also reviewed in greater detail are the potential application areas for UAVs in cotton cultivation.
