The Central Institute Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), one of the eight Fisheries Institutes of ICAR, was established in April 1987 to conduct research leading to sustainable and responsible development of aquaculture in brackishwater systems in different agro-ecological regions. The brackishwater aquaculture. headquarters of the Institute is located in Chennai with an experimental field station at Muttukadu, about 30 km. south of Chennai. The Institute has three research centres located at Kakdwip (West Bengal), Puri (Orissa) and Narakkal (Kerala).
