Description This resource was developed by the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research Racial Data Lab (CAR RDL), with the purpose of providing researchers with state abortion policy that can be used to investigate disparate effects of abortion policy on populations. The State Abortion Policy Tracker tracks the dates states changed abortion policies before and after the Dobbs v Jackson Supreme Court decision repealing federal protections to abortions in the United States. The tracker provides details on gestational limits and the legal status of abortion policy for all states. All policies in the tracker were entered by two independent parties, after which discrepancies were examined and resolved by a team of CAR RDL researchers. The tracker contains policy data for all states pre-Dobbs and as of January 1, 2023 with further developments tracked as of May 12 and November 1, 2023.
