Description |
Piper co/llbrinllnl Link is a distant relative of Ihe cullivaled black pepper (Piper nigmm L. ) and is the only species reported to be totally immune to Phytophthora foot rot of black pepper. This species can he successfully nlicropropagated from leaf, stem and root tissues on WPM as a basal medium slipplemented with growth regulators, Shoot tip explants developed excellent root system on hormone tree medium and they developed mulliple shoots on woody plant medium IWPM) supplemented with cytokinin. Planllets can be regenerated Irom stem, leaf and root tissues by direct oraanogenesis as well as through callus phase on WPM + 3 mgl ' benlyladenine (BA) and 1 IIIgl l Kinetin_ This tissue and callus culture protocols may help in attaining the ultimate objective of transfer 01 resistance from P colubrinum cultivated black pepper through genetic engineering, |
