Description |
It is widely recognised that UN peace operations are a highly decentralized activity that has evolved in a bottom-up fashion since the first UN peacekeepers were deployed in 1948. But who exactly are the people that lead peace operations and decide how these are implemented on the ground? This dataset comprises appointments in seven different leadership positions in UN peace operations since their beginning in 1948 until 2023 (in total 70 missions), recording their country of origin, gender and term in office.
