Description |
Insect pest control measures based on chemical insecticides result in many environmental problems including harm to non-target organisms, pesticide residues in the produce and development of resistance in targeted insects. In recent past, studies on development of pest control strategies with reliance on safer insecticides, and other eco-friendly methods including insect pathogen (entomopathogen) based microbial control have been intensified. Entomopathogens cause diseases in insects and play an important role in regulating pest populations in nature. Entomopathogens include viruses, fungi, bacteria, nematodes and microsporidia.
