Description |
There has been a renewed interest during the past decade in developing environment–friendly insect pest management schedules in sustainable agriculture including spice crops, reflecting the increasing concern over pesticide misuse. Use of natural enemies (predators and parasitoids) and natural products offer great potential in forming a major component in developing IPM schedules against insect pests infesting spice crops. A number of natural enemies have been recorded on most of the major insect pests of these crops and their potential in the management of insect pests are highlighted in this article. The information available on other eco-friendly methods such as cultural methods and use of natural products for the management of insect pests is also included since these methods are compatible with biocontrol agents and are to be utilized in an integrated manner.
