Description |
Clove (Syzygiumn aromaticum) was introduced to India by the British East India Company during the 18th century from the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. Thereafter the spice has made India its secondary center of domestication. The important clove growing districts in India now are Nilgiris, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu , Kozhikode, Kottayam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts of Kerala and South Kanara district of Karnataka. If clove has firmly rpoted in South India since its introduction, it has rooted deeply at Ambanaad estate of the Travancore Rubber and Tea Co. Ltd, though the estate is otherwise known for tea and rubber plantations. |
