Description In this paper, we explore the effects of district level social and economic variables on representation biases in Congressional representation. We provide simulated data that supports the view that lower-income constituents are better represented in districts that have high levels of electoral competition and low median incomes. We then show that the relationship holds when we recreate the model using Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) scores instead of DW-NOMINATE scores as a measure of ideological distance.
