The Higher Education Opportunities Act (HEOA) of 2008, requires colleges and universities maintaining on-campus housing to compile fire data and issue a fire safety report annually. This report includes statistics on the number of fires, the cause of each fire, the number of injuries and deaths, and the value of property damaged. It also includes a description of fire systems; the number of fire drills; evacuation procedures; education and training programs; the institution's policies on appliances, smoking, open flames, and other potential hazards; and future plans for fire safety improvement.
