Users can access demographic information, strategies, reports and maps for each country. Topics include, but are not limited to: mortality, burden of disease and health systems. Background The World Health Organization (WHO) oversees the health agenda of the United Nations. The WHO provides leadership on global health issues; establishes the public health research agenda by catalyzing the generation, translation and diffusion of public health knowledge; establishes and monitors the implementation of health standards; presents ethical and evidence-based policy options; provides technical support to countries; and monitors and assesses health trends. The WHO website provides country demographic and initiative information. Topics include: mortality, burden of disease, health service coverage, risk factors and health systems within each country. User Functionality Users can access country demographic information and cooperation strategies for each country that lists health and development opportunities and challenges, development assistance priorities and initiatives, the WHO strategic agenda, and the plan for implementing the strategic agenda for the next four years for each country. Disease outbreaks, situation reports, emergencies, and press releases and maps applicable to the country of interest are also available. Users can download country summaries as PDF files. Data Notes Data are derived from multiple sources including: WHO Statistical Information System (WHOSIS), WHO Global InfoBase Online, Global Health Atlas, Statistics from WHO regional offices, World Health Survey (WHS), WHO/CDC Youth Tobacco Survey (YTS), Global Information System on Tobacco Control (GISTOC), Global Information System on Alcohol and Health (GISAH), WHO Global Database on Body Mass Index, WHO Global Database on Child Growth and Malnutrition, WHO Global Data Bank on Infant and Young Child Feeding, Vitamin and Mineral Nutrition Information System, WHO National Health Accounts (NHA), United Nations Population Division’s World Population Prospects Database, WHO Global Tuberculosis Database, UNAIDS/WHO Global HIV/AIDS Online Database and WHO/UNICEF joint reporting process. Information is available for each country. Years in which data were collected vary according to country and indicator and are documented with the indicator. |
