Description These data are from a survey of fourth grade students in Gansu Province, China conducted in October 2010. The survey covered 2686 students in 70 schools located across 5 counties in the province. The dataset includes information on student characteristics (gender, age, minority, whether the student boards at school) and family background (household size, parent education, and parent migration status) as well as student physical health (hemoglobin concentrations collected using HemoCue Hb 201+ fingerpick systems for 50% of the students, height, weight), academic performance (scores from a standardized math exam consisting of questions created for the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS)) and mental health (the Mental Health Test (MHT) developed by Professor Bucheng Zhou).
