Description Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common non-communicable illnesses worldwide. It is defined as an elevation in blood sugar (glucose) due to autoimmune destruction leading to insufficient insulin production (Type I DM) or insulin resistance (Type II DM). The purpose of this study was to assess the level of knowledge and perceptions on DM among the residents of Block 100th, PPR Sri Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, and their association with sociodemographic factors. Differences in knowledge between non-diabetic and diabetic individuals, and association between perception on DM and actual levels of knowledge were also explored. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 309 individuals, who were selected through a convenience sampling technique from Block 100th, PPR Sri Pantai, Kuala Lumpur. The standard Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ) was used for the survey, and statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 25 software. The DKQ score was calculated based on the recommended scoring system and normalised to 100%.
