Title Proceedings of the Consultants' Group Meetings on Downy Mildew and Elgot of Pearl Millet

Subject Millets

Description The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has undertaken a major program for the improvement of pearl millet in the semi-arid tropical regions of Asia and Africa. The downy mildew and ergot diseases of pearl millet are recognized as two major factors preventing the realization of potentials offered by more intensive cultivation of new varieties and hybrids with high yield potentials. In India today both these diseases are causing a major setback in the utilization of hybrid millets. In order to review the state of knowledge on these diseases and to establish a priority of activities likely to lead to their effective control, fourteen scientists from several countries were invited to Hyderabad for in-depth discussions with ICRISAT staff on the topics of biology, epidemiology and control of downy mildew and ergot of pearl millet.
