Description The present investigation was carried out on rectum collected from ten recently slaughter adult goats. Wall of the rectum of goat was composed of four layers viz. tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa, tunica muscularis and tunica serosa or adventitia. The lining epithelium, lamina propria and lamina muscularis mucosae were three main components of tunica mucosa. The tunica submucosa was composed of loose connective tissue and blood vessels were present scattered in tunica sub mucosa. The tunica muscularis was composed of two layers i.e. inner circular and outer longitudinal smooth muscle. Tunica serosa (peritoneal portion) was the outermost layer of the cranial part of the rectum and was lined by mesothelium. The outermost layer of retroperitoneal portion of the rectum lacked mesothelium and was known as tunica adventitia. Tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa, tunica muscularis and tunica serosa or adventitia had collagen and reticular fibers. Elastic fibers were present around the blood vessels of tunica submucosa, tunica muscularis and sometime found in the blood vessels of the tunica serosa of rectum.
