The marine fisheries sector of Kerala has animportant role in the economy of the state in termsof food, nutrition, employment and export earnings. But, the sector is facing multitude of challenges thatnegatively impact the livelihood of fisherfolk.Consolidating the gains and mitigating the chal-lenges requires a reinvented extension system in themarine fisheries sector, which goes beyond thetraditional technology transfer paradigm to a broad-based extension-plus approach. The focus needs tobe shifted from enhancing production to enhancingincome of fishers and the development of sustain-able livelihood. Concerted action of pluralisticactors across the value chain is required for theoperationalization of the extension-plus approach. Not Available |
