Description The objective of this work is to characterize the population of Cordyla pinnata in the agroforestry parks of the peanut basin in Senegal. The methodology used is a forest inventory comprising 104 sampling plots arranged on transects. The results indicated a density of 2.51 individuals/ha and a relatively low regeneration index of 0.03. Analysis of the structure of ligneous plants shows that the population is essentially represented by large trees of large diameters with a virtual absence of young individuals, reflecting aging. Fruit production is spread over 2 to 3 months and allows a great availability of seeds with an average of 155 seeds per tree, part of which (23.18%) is parasitized or attacked by insects and ends up rotting. Due to their weight, seed dispersal is low and most of the regeneration takes place under the crown of the mother plants. This abundance of seeds at the start of the rainy season makes it possible to observe a large number of young plants resulting mainly from seeds whose average number per tree in fallow land is higher than in cultivated plots. Similarly, this number is higher in millet fields compared to groundnut fields, a difference mainly due to agricultural activities. However, high sucker mortality is noted mainly due to harvesting activities, drought and competition with other grasses. This is detrimental to the renewal and maintenance of this species in growing areas.
