Description Okra crop suffers due to insect pests and farmers resort to the use of highly toxic pesticides for more than 15 to 16 rounds resulting in toxic residues both to non-target organisms and to humans. The need of the hour is to use biopesticides, which are safe to the non-target organisms and human beings. In this direction, M/s Dhana Crop Sciences has developed Oxymatrine, a biopesticide extracted from the roots of Sophoria flavescens, which has the virtues of high efficacy on insects and lack of residue problem. No tolerance levels were fixed on the consumable bhendi fruits. Thus, it can be concluded that Oxymatrine 0.5 EC sprayed fruits could be consumed safely after 2 days of spray without any harmful effects to the consumers.
