Description Over 50 diseases have been reported to affect pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan [L] Millsp.), a widely grown tropical legume crop. Economically important diseases are wilt, Phytophthora blight, sterility mosaic, witches' broom, and rust. To assist plant breeders develop disease-resistant material, easy and effective techniques to screen germplasm and breeding material have been developed and standardized for some diseases-Details of these techniques are given, supported by 23 color illustrations and a nine-point rating scale for the ready identification of resistant breeding material.
