Description |
The F1 and F2 generations of 11 crosses between 6 Spanish and 2 Virginia groundnut genotypes were compared for frequency of albino seedlings during 1988-89 post rainy and 1989 rainy seasons. The F3 in 4 of the crosses were compared for segregating and non-segregating progeny during 1989-90. All the F1 plants were green. Of the 11 crosses, only 7 segregated for albinism in the F2 generation. When the F2 data were analysed for a ratio of 60 green : 3 albino plants (derived from 60 green : 3 albino : 1 zygotic lethal), χ² values for the individual crosses as well as the total and pooled were non-significant, indicating a good fit to this ratio. The ratio of segregating and non-segregating F3 progenies in all 4 crosses gave a good fit in favour of the 60 green : 3 albino plants distribution. Results were taken as confirming that albinism in groundnuts is controlled by 2 duplicate loci interacting with a third locus in an epistatic manner
