Description |
Seeds of different progeny bulks from γ irradiated chickpea cv. ICCV6 and the control (cv. H208) were both sown in the same hole, thus eliminating the effect of variation of salinity in the field. The plants were individually scored for salinity symptoms on a 0-5 scale. Results were analysed by 2 statistical methods. The ratio values (test/control or vice versa) indicate how much better or worse the test entry is than the control and the difference values (test - control or vice versa) provide information about the level of salinity effects. The tested plants had a significantly lower salinity score than the control, but no such significant differences were seen for seed number and yield ratios and differences. The salinity scores of test entry and control were closely and positively correlated (r = 0.81) but this correlation was very low for seed number and yield (r = -0.06). Results supported the usefulness of the screening method.
