Description |
Seeds of 35 Arachis accessions, belonging to 24 species in six sections, were artificially inoculated with A. flavus isolate Af 11-4. Seeds were scored for severity of colonization on a 1-5 scale where 1 = less than 5% seed surface colonized with scanty mycelia growth and no sporulation, and 4 = more than 50% seed surface colonized with good mycelia growth and heavy sporulation. The seeds were washed and aflatoxins estimated using ELISA. Wide variation was noted in seed surface colonization and aflatoxin production among the accessions tested. Accessions ICG 13212 (A. pusilla), ICG 11560 (A. chiquitana), and ICG 8131 and ICG 14875 (A. triseminata) recorded low colonization severity and relatively low aflatoxins contents compared with control cultivars J 11 and JL 24.
