Description |
During 1978-91, some 5895 crosses were made between different resistant germplasm accessions and lines characterized by earliness, large kabuli seed and high yield in the main season. The pedigree method up to 1985 and thereafter the bulk-pedigree method were used to advance generations. Several generations were evaluated for blight resistance in field and greenhouse conditions by inoculating with diseased debris and spore suspension. Some 92 lines were resistant or moderately resistant in both environments and possessed kabuli-type seed; of the resistant types, 5 were also early maturing, 5 were large-seeded, 7 were tall, 9 were tall and large-seeded, and 1 was early maturing and large-seeded.
