Description |
During 1986-88, 22 accessions of 8 wild Cicer spp. (C. bijugum, C. cuneatum, C. chorassanicum, C. echinospermum, C. judaicum, C. pinnatifidum, C. reticulatum and C. yamashitae) were screened for resistance to Fusarium wilt (F. oxysporum f.sp. ciceris) and root rot (Rhizoctonia bataticola [Macrophomina phaseolina]) in Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. The wilt susceptible chickpea cultivar JG 62 had 100% mortality but the wild Cicer accessions showed considerable variation between years and seasons. F. oxysporum was the predominant fungus isolated from dead plants followed by M. phaseolina, F. solani, Sclerotium [Corticium] rolfsii and R. solani. It is suggested that this is probably the first report on the identification of combined resistance to wilt and root rots in wild Cicer spp
