Description Animal-drawn, multi-purpose tool carriers have been in existence for at least 25 years. Tool carriers are designed to provide the advantages of improved implements to animal-power-based farming. They operate like tractors whose implements can be changed easily to suit' the operational requirements. Although successful adoption of tool carriers has been limited to only a few countries of West Africa, renewed work aimed at enlarging the area of usefulness has shown promising results. Timeliness, quality of operations, and efficiency in the utilization of animal power are the factors that make wheeled tool carriers economically and technically viable in dryland farming.
