Description |
Increasing food production continues to he as high a priority in rnany national and international agricultural research programs, as in the 1960s and '70s. 'l'he task, however, has become more complex becnuse agricultural technologies are now expected to he rnorr profitable, stistainablc, and environment-friendly in addition to being highly productive. Achieving this objective in SAT and in the dry arras of WANA is particularly challenging because these environments are poorly endowed for crop production. Also, the rnajority of farmers of these rcgions havc small holdings, a poor resource base, and pract,ic:e subsistence farming. |
