Leaf dry wt. (LDW), number of leaflets (LN) and leaf area/plant (LA), measured with an electronic foliometer, were measured at 12 intervals of 1 wk in soyabeans from the 4-node stage. Linear regressions between LA and LN and between LA and LDW were highly significant, and a prediction equation for LA, LA = -286.7 + 80.3 (LDW) + 31.5 (LN), was evaluated. Predicted LAI was highly correlated (r = 0.99) with measured LAI
