Description |
Knowledge'of' transmission i s essential for undertaking studies on the epidemiology of diseases caused by plnnt viruscs. A majority of plnnt viruses are transmitted by biotic aget~tss uch as, insects, nematotles and fi~ngi.A part from these, seeds, especially in the casc of legumcs, pollen and plal~pt arts used in vegetative propagation can transmit viruses. Of 36 plant virus groups described so far, orie or more members in 12 groups arc seed transmitted ill legumes. Of scveral plant viruses reportcd to naturally infect groundnut (Arctchis Iiypogaen L.), at least five viruses are known to be seed-transmitted in grourldnut (Table 1). |
