Description Field studies carried out in Andhra Pradesh, India, in 1978-83 showed that attack by Helicoverpa armigera on sorghum was intensive during the rainy season, larvae damaging the developing grains. Fourteen parasitoids, a mermithid nematode and 6 predators were recorded from H. armigera. Rates of parasitism higher than 50% were commonly recorded in eggs and larvae. Rates of infestation and parasitism did not differ between sorghum as a monoculture and intercropped with pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan]. Natural enemies were more active on alfisols than on vertisols. The results are discussed in relation to the management of H. armigera on sorghum.
