Abstract/Description: | Synthetic coloured broiler Male Line: 1. In each generation the line will be regenerated from 50 to 60 sires. 2. Each sire will be mated to 5 to 6 dams. 3. A total of 4,000 chicks will be generated in each generation in 3 to 4 hatches. 5. During juvenile stage the following traits will be measured. Body weight at four weeks of age Body weight at five weeks of age Body weight at six weeks of age Feed efficiency up to 5 and 6 weeks 6.(a) Based on five week body weight 200 males and 600 females will be selected and will be maintained under restricted feeding schedule. (b) Independent culling level selection will be applied on Breast angle at 5 weeks of age 7. At sixteen weeks of age these males and females will be screened for leg weakness and skeletal deformities. 8. At 20 weeks of age 150 males and 600 females will be housed and will be under restricted feeding schedule till the end of recording of the traits. 9. The following traits will be measured in the breeders. Age at sexual maturity Body weight at 20 and 40 weeks of age. Egg weight at 32 and 40 weeks of age. Egg production to 40 weeks of age 10. The parents of the next generation will be selected based on the five week body . Weight based on mass selection 11. Fertility and hatchability for the parents will be reported. Production of heat resistant broilers • Naked neck gene line will be utilized for this purpose. • 20 sires of PB-1 will be crossed with 100 dams of naked neck( homozygous) and around 200 cross progeny will be produced. • Performance of these crosses will be recorded during peak summer. • Traits related heat stresses are recorded in sample of crosses and pure lines. • Oxidative enzymes like alkaline phosphatise etc. • Mortality pattern • Comparative evaluation is made with pure lines and crosses. • Juvenile traits will be recorded up to 6 weeks of age in all the genetic groups. Synthetic Coloured Random bred Pedigreed Broiler Control Line: 1. The line synthesized for the purpose during the year 2,000 will be used for . this purpose 2. In each generation the line will be regenerated from fifty sires. 3. Each sire will be mated to four to five dams. 4. A total of 1,200 chicks will generated in each generation in two to three hatches 1. During Juvenile stage the following traits will be measured. Body weight at four weeks of age Body weight at five weeks of age. Body weight at six week of age. 6. At six week of age two males in each sire and two females in each dam will be saved at random and maintained under restricted feeding schedule. 7. At Sixteen weeks of age these males and females will be screened for leg weakness and skeletal deformities. 8. At twenty weeks of age 100 males and 500 females will be housed and will be under restricted feeding schedule till end of recording of traits. 9. The following traits will be measured in breeders. Age of sexual maturity Body weight at 20 and 40 weeks of age. Egg weight at 32 and 40 weeks of age. Egg production to 40 weeks of age. 10. Pedigreed chicks for the next generation will be regenerated from a base of fifty sires. 11. Fertility and hatchability for the parents will be reported. |
