| Abstract/Description: | The effects of different plant growth substances on seed germination, vegetative growth, flowering, fruit set, fruit ripening, fruit yield, fruit quality and resistance to various diseases in tomato are reviewed. Growth substances have been used effectively to improve seed germination, growth, yield and quality of tomato. Gibberellic acid (GA) was suitable for seed germination, vegetative growth and yield; NAA for seed emergence, seedling setting, fruit set and yield; NOA (naphthoxyacetic acid) and 2, 4-D for fruit set in the off-season; ethephon for early and uniform ripening; chlormequat for decreasing excessive vegetative growth and improving yield; and TIBA for yield and induction of male sterility. |
