| Abstract/Description: | Nothapodytes nimmoniana is a well known natural source of Camptothecin (CPT), a monoterpene indole alkaloid which exhibits antitumor activity. Its analogs are potent antiviral, anti-HIV agents and chemosterilants. Fortyeight individual trees of N. nimmoniana were chemically profiled from five places of Western Ghats of Karnataka state. There was significant variation in both CPT and 9-methoxy CPT (9-MCPT) contents in stem bark and root bark samples. The present study reveals that in the correlation analysis between CPT and 9- MCPT, there is a linear relationship between accumulation of CPT and 9-MCPT in stem, stem bark and root bark but not in leaves. |
