Abstract/Description: | Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), a tropical tuber crop well adapted to marginal conditions responds well to manures and fertilizers. There are several production constraints as regard to soil chemical properties. The basic studies viz., sorption, critical level and preliminary evaluation of the nutrient statusetc. revealed that N, P, K and Ca as the limiting nutrients in the soil. Based on these studies, the optimum nutrient was fixed as NPK @ 100:300:300 kg ha-1. Since Ca also was identified as one of the limiting nutrients , it was also taken as one of the treatments to study its effect on cassava production and soil productivity. Tuber yield, dry matter production, nutrient uptake as well as benefit cost ratio showed a poor or negative response to lime whereas the quality attributes showed a slight improvement. However, there was no significant effect of lime on the soil chemical parameters. |
