Abstract/Description: The sea going boats and ships are designed and constructed based on the rules of the classification societies and the registering authorities of the flag nation. This ensures the structural and operational safety of the vessel as well as the crew and others onboard. The vast majority of the commercial fishing vessels in India are not designed and constructed like this. The standards are not followed in the design and construction of these vessels which are undertaking multiday fishing in the deep sea. An attempt is made here to clearly demarcate the shortfalls in this sector and bring out a standard design for commercial combination fishing vessel.
